INFORMATION OF AUSTIN METROPOLITAN AREAS

AUSTIN is a big city with the feel of a small college town and a heart and soul unlike any other city. It is the cultural and economic center of the Greater Austin metropolitan area with a population of 709,893 people (2006 census). Austin is touted by "Fortune Magazine" as one of the country's top 5 intellectual capitals. The city has 7 institutions of higher education including the Univerisity of Texas. The city was selected the #2 Best Big City in " Best Places to LIve" by Money magazine in 2006 and the Greenest City (referrs to the commitment to sustainable living) by MSN.

Austin is a unique mix of high-tech workers, university professors, students, politicians, lobbyist, state employees, musicians, blue and white collar workers. The high-tech industry is so large it has been referred to as "Silicon HIlls".

The music scene in Austin was once primarily known for country and blues but in past years has become as diversed as the ever growing population. It is the home of musical talent like the late Stevie Ray Vaughn, Janis Joplin and currently the legendary Willie Nelson and The Dixie Chicks.

The Austin film industry is strong and growing. Movie Maker magazine ranks Ausitn as Americas #1 film making destination in its eight annual ranking of the "Top Ten U.S. Cities to live and Make Movies".

The city of Austin has its own rythm and energy. It is cosmopolitan yet unpretentious. Hip and trendy but not commerical. The locals have adopted a slogan that sums it up, "Keep Austin Weird" which refers to the eclectic and progressive lifestyles of Austinites but also refers to the movement to preserve smaller local businesses and resist excessive commericalization.
In a nut shell, Austin is just too cool!

GEORGETOWN is a lovely historic community located 26 miles north of Austin on the San Gabriel River. The river runs through the city adding to the picturesque Victorian architecture of the town square. A must see!

Sun Citywhich is located in Georgetown is one of the first large master planned communities for mature adults. This development is simply magnificent!

Inner Space Caverns is located right off IH-35 in Georgetown. The caverns were discovered in 1963 when the Texas Department of Highways was working on Interstate 35. Several miles of passage have been surveyed with many sections remaining unexplored. Visitors to the caverns are lowered to the bottom of the carvern via a cable car. It is a thrilling sight to see the cavern and the beautiful work of nature.

Southwestern University which was founded in 1840 is the oldest university in Texas and is a sight to see in itself. The architecture and grounds of this campus is splendid and definitely worth going to visit.

LAKE TRAVIS has always been a beautiful place to visit and live but in the past few years it has grown and developed to be one of the most desirable bedroom communities of Austin. Lake Travis has the charm of small town living and is only 22 miles from Austin.

Lake Travis offers boating (motor and sail) camping, fishing, hunting, tennis and golf. Shopping is in abundance with a new mall and outdoor shopping area with all the big box stores like Pets Mart, Office Depot, Pier I, World Market, Subway, etc, just a few miles away.

A few of the subdivisions located in the Lakeway area are, Bella Montana, Costa Bella, Arbolago, Flintrock Falls, The Hills of Lakeway, Alta Vista, Lake Wind, Bee Cave, Village of the Hills, Briarcliff Village, Lakeway, Apache Shores, Commander Hills, Four Points, Hudson Bend and Spicewood.

The well known Austin Spa and Resort is only a few miles away from the center of Lakeway on Lake Austin.

ROUND ROCK is located 15 miles north of Austin and 10 miles east of Georgetown. Round Rock is known for its award winning school districts and its master planned park systems. The estimated population based on the 2005 Census is 86,316.

Round Rock´s major employers are Dell, Farmers Insurance Group and Cypress Semi Conductor. The city is the home of the Round Rock Express a triple class A minor base ball league team. The Dell Diamond which was named the top Double A Stadium by Baseball America in 2004 is the home of the Round Rock Express which is an affiliate of the Houston Astros.

In the last couple of years the development in Round Rock has exploded with new toll roads, hospitals and mega shopping facilities including IKEA and the designer stores outlet mall.

DRIPPING SPRINGS located 21 miles west of Austin is known for its many ranches, abundant wildlife and past home of Willie Nelson. Johnny Cash wrote and recorded a song called "Dripping Springs."

Dripping Springs is the gateway to the Texas Hill County with its beautiful rollling hills, majestic views, rock bottom creeks, great swimming holes and abundant wildlife.

One of the most beautiful sights in the area is the 232 acre preserve, Hamiton Pool located 30 miles west of Austin on FM 3238. Hamilton Pool Preserve has a 45 foot waterfall, hiking trails and picnic areas. Visitors must park near the road and hike the trails to reach the pool and waterfalls. A must see when traveling through the Austin area.

PFLUGERVILLE is a small community with German heritage located 15 miles northeast of Austin. It is located near 3 major employers Dell, IBM, and Samsung. In November 2006 the first part of a central tollway system open in the backyard of this community including state highway 130 and Highway 45 creating unobstructed roadways in and out Pflugerville.

This community has an abundance of recretational parks and hike and bike trails including Lake Pflugerville which is a 180 acre water reservoir and city park.

The NBC television drama Friday Night Lights is filmed in Pflugerville and Austin. They use Pflugerville HIgh School stadium to film football games.

CEDAR PARK is 16 miles northeast of Austin and is located in Travis and Williamson counties. As of June 2006 the population was estimated at around 42,000. The estimate for for 2008 is around 52,721 making Cedar Park the 7th fast growing city in the U.S. Highway 183 runs through the middle of Cedar Park with Toll Road 183A north of the city. New developments are continuously popping up. One of the new developments for the city is the Cedar Park Regional Hospital to open in early 2008 and 1890 Ranch a shopping. dining, and entertainment complex.

LEANDER is located 22 miles northwest of Austin and boarders Cedar Park. Like Cedar Park, Leander is growing and developing faster than we can tract it. The city offers a mecca of shopping, Lakeline Mall, Lakeline Village, 1890 Ranch and the Railyard. New housing and developments are springing up everywhere. Lake Travis South is just a few miles away adding to the amenities of this area.
